Their rubber coating fell off, we re-soldered them back in, and one of our vintage synthesizers came back to life. Again, we love the Internet. If you have a Roland Juno 106 or Juno 60 and notes start to irregularly hold on your keyboard, call us. We’ll talk you through it. Total repair bill? $3.28.

We’ll be making Juno 106 Sound Sets this fall. Stay tuned.

On Friday our little Roland Juno 106 was feeling under the weather so we decided to try to fix it. We figured out quickly that it was a couple of the voice chips misbehaving. Instead of replacing them we decided to try a trick we found on the internet. We would attempt to revive them by any means possible (in this case soaking them in Acetone and crossing our fingers). Here is a photo diary of the process. It is a work in progress. Feel free to follow along…

And you know what? It sounds pretty great. With even the best laid plans, acoustical materials, and drawings, you never know how a space will sound until you start making music. We couldn’t be happier. Drums sound big and boomy, acoustic instruments shine, and vocals have a perfect amount of air.

We did have one issue however… we had to raise the chandelier 20 inches to make more room for our overhead microphones. Oh well, we think this is a small price to pay.

Expect 3 new songs in the coming weeks.

We’re nerds. Last week we ordered a Stylophone, an obscure stylus based instrument that apparently David Bowie used to great effect. Quirky and weird, it arrived in the mail this morning from London, England. The link below is a Live Pack and under that are the raw WAV’s to make your own sampler instrument in whatever format you choose. We recorded them with a single Neumann U67 on the built in speaker, maybe we will do a direct out version and a more complicated interface soon. Please “Like” us on Facebook and comment on the Live Pack there. Enjoy…
